THE RIPPLE EFFECTS
Is a non profit 501 (c)3 restorative justice program founded in 2009, that is a response to the needs of incarcerated and reentering women. THE RIPPLE EFFECTS is shutting down recidivism in our communities and beyond; through education, community building, supportive programs and access to resources. We assist in transitioning into a positive social community both while incarcerated and upon reentry.

RECIDIVISM IS A SIGN OF DYSFUNCTION. Recidivism is greatly reduced when individuals are prepared for release through education and strong support systems while incarcerated, and are then recieved into an environment that teaches and assists them. We know from our experience that negative social patterns can be changed by learning new coping techniques, gaining personal insight about past experiences and choices, and learning to recognize the triggers that lead to violence.
The support we give persons inside lays the ground work for guiding them through the reentry process.
-
We take 15-20 collect phone calls a day.
-
We are currently funding certification courses in para legal and in medical transcription for 16 persons in 5 California state prisons.
-
We provide 10-15 individual care packages per quarter.
-
Our organization is different because we work directly with DOZENS of incarcerated individuals in California's prisons.
-
We continue to foster those strong relationships upon reentry.
By expanding our services with regard to reentry, we assure that returning women have the social, educational and personal support needed to successfully re-intergrate into mainstream society.
OUR REENTRY GOALS CENTER ON:
-
OBTAINING STABLE HOUSING
-
CONTINUED EDUCATION
-
PREPARING FOR EMPLOYMENT INCLUDING A PAID CELL PHONE IN ORDER TO FOLLOW THROUGH WITH EMPLOYMENT INTERVIEW APPOINTMENTS
-
FORMING A CONTINUING POSITIVE SOCIAL NETWORK
The CORE of the program is education, employment, and strong social support for up to 2 years and beyond. We create an upward path: from unemployment, to jobs, from jobs to careers.
Ultimately this produces a de-escalation of recidivism.
The end goal will be that each person pass on what they have learned to those who follow them.
OUR GOAL IS TO SERVE AS MANY RETURNING PERSONS AS POSSIBLE.
